Thirty-five years after the deadly day that marked our country's history and gave rise to Martyrs' Day, the nation remembers. On this commemorative day of March 26, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Major General Abdoulaye Maiga, laid a wreath this morning at the foot of the monument dedicated to the Martyrs. A solemn gesture in homage to the victims of the events of March 1991.Thirty-five years later, the memory of these tragic events remains deeply rooted in the collective memory of Malians.
Upon his arrival at the site, Major General Abdoulaye Maiga was greeted by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, as well as by administrative and municipal authorities. Gazing at the Martyrs' Monument, the Prime Minister paused solemnly, punctuated by the salute to the flag and the playing of the national anthem. The Prime Minister then reviewed the troops. Stopping before the monument, a poignant depiction of a mother weeping over her child's body, the Prime Minister bent down to take a carefully arranged bouquet of flowers. He walked, his gaze heavy, to the foot of the statue of the grieving mother. A brief salute sounded: the Prime Minister had just fulfilled his duty of remembrance on behalf of the President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta.
This solemnly laid bouquet symbolizes both the purity of remembrance, the blood shed, and the shared aspiration for peace and national reconciliation. The Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Maiga, took this opportunity to pay a heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who fell on the field of honor. He also commended the resilience of the Malian people, as well as their commitment and selflessness in the face of enemy attacks and daily hardships. Major General Abdoulaye Maïga salutes the assembled dignitaries before returning to his motorcade. The Martyrs' Monument, motionless and its gaze fixed on the horizon, bears for eternity the memory of a Malian people proud of their history.
